Thinking about stopping in for dermal fillers at our med spa in Torrance, CA? Whether you’ve tried other treatments before or are totally new to the cosmetic world, trying fillers for the first time can certainly cause a few butterflies—especially for those who don’t love needles. With the right prep (and the right injector!), however, you can enjoy a breezy treatment experience and achieve results you can’t wait to show off.

In this blog post, we’ll walk you through what to expect when getting fillers, step by step. We’ll also share a video of one of our injectors performing a treatment so you can see for yourself what it’s like.

Consulting About Your Goals

The first step in the treatment process is a consultation. This initial discussion gives you and your injector the chance to go over your aesthetic concerns and the look you would like to achieve.

Placing Your Markings

Once you and your injector have defined your goals, your injector will make detailed markings on your skin indicating where they will place the filler. There’s no room for guesswork when it comes to your face!

Numbing Your Treated Area

Depending on the area being treated and the type of filler, your injector may use either a topical numbing cream or an injectable numbing agent to make sure you’re comfortable throughout your treatment.

We also offer ProNox as an option to make your treatment even more comfortable if you have a lower pain tolerance or anxiety over injections.

Injecting Your Filler

Next, it’s time for your injections! Your injector will carefully place the filler under your skin using a tiny needle. Most treatments require a series of a few injections to create an even and natural-looking result. This whole process typically takes only a few minutes.

As for what it feels like, one Glamour reporter described the feeling of getting fillers as “strange” but “not nearly as bad as [she] had heard.”

Discussing Your Aftercare

Dermal fillers involve little to no recovery time; however, you will likely have some swelling and mild bruising for a week or two following your treatment. Before you head home, your injector will discuss aftercare guidelines with you, including taking acetaminophen to minimize soreness and applying ice packs regularly.

Enjoying Your Results

You’ll see a difference in your look right away, but your final look will take shape about 2 or 3 weeks later, once your swelling has subsided. Different fillers have different life spans, but you can generally expect your results to last anywhere from 6 to 18 months.

If for any reason you don’t love your results, you can dissolve your hyaluronic acid fillers at any time. Learn more about filler removal in this blog post.
