BOTOX®, Dysport® & Jeuveau®: How Are They Different & Which Is Best for Me?

Woman in Los Angeles, CA determining her best option to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles

When it comes to smoothing away lines and wrinkles, people all around the world know and love BOTOX. At our Torrance med spa, however, BOTOX isn’t our only line of defense against wrinkles. Dysport and Jeuveau are quickly becoming equally popular for their anti-aging abilities, as well. They function almost exactly like BOTOX and offer similarly smooth results. So how are they different?

In this blog post, we’ll compare the 3 neurotoxins available at The Spa at South Bay Plastic Surgeons to help you understand which option may be right for you.

How BOTOX, Dysport & Jeuveau Work

All 3 products fall under the category of injectable neurotoxins, also called neuromodulators. They interrupt the signals from the brain telling specific muscles to contract, which is how they smooth away wrinkles caused by squinting, frowning, and so on.

Each product is made by a different manufacturer and has a slightly different formulation. For example, Dysport tends to spread more than BOTOX, making it ideal for larger areas (forehead lines) but not for more delicate areas (crow’s feet). The treatment experience, however, is essentially identical. Learn more about what to expect during a neurotoxin treatment in this previous blog post.

BOTOX, Dysport & Jeuveau Treatment Areas

Because each formulation varies slightly, some products work better for certain concerns in specific areas of the face than others.

  • BOTOX is FDA-approved for glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows), forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
  • Dysport and Jeuveau are FDA-approved for glabellar lines.

The right product and dosage for you depend on your specific anatomy and cosmetic goals, so it’s important to have an in-depth conversation with your injector about which option will work best for you.

BOTOX, Dysport & Jeuveau Results

All neurotoxins achieve a similar result of subtly relaxed facial muscles and reduced lines and wrinkles. The primary difference is the timeline you can expect with each product.

  • Both BOTOX and Jeuveau take 7 to 10 days to work and last for 3 to 6 months.
  • Dysport works within 2 to 3 days and lasts 3 to 4 months.

Some people find their results last even longer when they maintain regular treatments over time.

BOTOX, Dysport & Jeuveau Pricing

These products are priced by the unit and fall into the same general price range. Dysport and Jeuveau have slightly lower price points than BOTOX, but you may need more units of them to achieve the same result. You can save on whichever product your injector recommends with our V.I.P. membership.

Ultimately, the best neurotoxin for you depends on your unique anatomy and goals for your look. At your cosmetic consultation, your injector will recommend a personalized treatment plan to make sure you enjoy the best possible results.
