Blepharoplasty at our Torrance, California, practice rejuvenates the eyelids for a refreshed, youthful appearance. Learn why patients travel from throughout Los Angeles for eyelid surgery at South Bay Plastic Surgeons.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat (puffiness) and drooping skin around the eyes. It tightens the skin around the upper and/or lower eyelids and can correct vision problems caused by overhanging skin.
Eyelid surgery costs vary based on whether you are treating your lower lids, upper lids, or both sets at once and whether you are pursuing the surgery for cosmetic or functional reasons. We provide general estimates on our Pricing page, but we can only give you an accurate quote following a discussion and evaluation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons.
During your consultation, we will create a customized treatment plan that reflects your needs. We are also happy to discuss financing options with you at that time.
Our team of board-certified plastic surgeons are experts in eyelid rejuvenation.
They use their advanced training and meticulous techniques to refine the delicate eye area, offering an elevated, thoughtful patient experience and excellent outcomes.
Our expert team of board-certified plastic surgeons has extensive training and experience in all facets of plastic and reconstructive surgery, making us a natural choice for both functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery cases.
Healthy patients with realistic expectations about what the surgery can accomplish are good candidates for eyelid surgery if they:
In some cases, a patient is a good candidate for upper or lower blepharoplasty alone. However, treating all 4 eyelids at once (quad blepharoplasty) usually gives the best and most consistently refreshed result.
Once you are under adequate anesthesia, your plastic surgeon will make incisions in the creases of the upper lids and/or inside the lower lids. They will then separate the muscle and fatty tissue from the skin before making adjustments.
Your plastic surgeon will remove the excess fat, trim sagging skin, and tighten the underlying muscle. Depending on the technique, they may close your incisions with sutures or surgical glue. The procedure generally takes 1 to 3 hours, and you can go home after a brief monitoring period.
Your eyes may feel sticky for a week or so after your blepharoplasty operation. Your surgeon will show you how to care for your eyes and give you detailed postoperative instructions. We recommend applying sunscreen on your eyelids and wearing sunglasses when you are outside.
Although blepharoplasty is not an extensive surgery, you’ll still need to give yourself adequate time to rest. Avoid reading or watching TV for the first 3 to 5 days to allow your eyes to heal and feel more comfortable. You can start wearing contact lenses again after about 2 weeks.
Patients frequently choose to pair their blepharoplasty with a brow lift or facelift to get more comprehensive results. In some cases, laser skin resurfacing, fat transfer, and dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® may be recommended to restore volume to the cheeks and under-eye area and to refresh the skin. Your plastic surgeon will help you determine which procedures can enhance your results and give you the look you want.
Yes, functional blepharoplasty can improve your vision by removing overhanging skin from your visual field. This type of surgery not only enhances your appearance but also addresses medical concerns.
If hanging skin limits your vision, your insurance may cover all or part of your operation. However, if it is cosmetic and not medically motivated, your blepharoplasty procedure will not be eligible for insurance coverage.
Recovery from upper blepharoplasty generally involves less swelling and bruising compared to lower blepharoplasty. Surgery on the lower eyelids may require more time for the swelling to subside and often involves more intensive aftercare to ensure proper healing.
The results of blepharoplasty can last for many years. However, the natural aging process and your lifestyle habits will continue to affect the eye area. Some patients may opt to have a secondary blepharoplasty performed in the future to maintain their results.
