Procedures Performed Breast Reconstruction

This is a 30 year old female patient who was diagnosed with left breast cancer. After meeting with her Surgeon, she decided to proceed with immediate bilateral breast reconstruction with a free deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap from her abdomen. During this type of breast reconstruction, the tissue from the abdomen is removed, similar to a tummy tuck. However, instead of discarding this tissue, it is used to reconstruct the breasts. This type of breast reconstruction allows use of the abdominal skin and fat with preservation of the abdominal muscles.
After her bilateral breast reconstruction, she underwent a breast lift to fix the assymetry of her breasts. A few months later she underwent nipple reconstruction and tattooing of both nipples. She is very happy with her results.
