DON'T MISS OUR BRA AND SPA EVENT, OCT. 25, 5-9 P.M.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! To celebrate the lives of our breast reconstruction patients, our staff and physicians, along with community members, are hosting our second annual BRA and Spa event!
Just like our 2012 BRA and Spa night, this year's event will provide encouragement for women undergoing breast reconstruction and educate attendees about breast reconstruction options. Music, a silent auction, guest speakers, prize drawings, and delicious hors d'oeuvres will create a fun evening for everyone. And, like last year's event, proceeds will go to Evelyn's Breast Friends Forever and to the Plastic Surgery Foundation BRA fund.
What's BRA, you ask? BRA is an acronym that stands for Breast Reconstruction Awareness, a collaboration between the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Plastic Surgery Foundation, plastic surgeons across the U.S., and corporate sponsors. The goals of Breast Reconstruction Awareness are to educate breast cancer patients about their reconstruction options and to promote a synergistic team approach to patient care. Those activities are funded through community events, fundraising parties, and donations.
Admission to the BRA and Spa event at the South End Racquet and Health Club on Oct. 25 from 5 to 9 p.m. is free. To attend, simply stop by and pick up your complimentary tickets today!
You can also call us or request a consultation online to speak with a plastic surgeon from our practice serving Long Beach, Torrance, and all of Los Angeles about the options we offer for breast reconstruction.
BREAST CANCER RECONSTRUCTION FACT CHECK
Many breast cancer patients are unaware of their options for reconstruction! Here are some important facts to know:
Federal law requires all health insurers, including Medicare and MediCal, to cover the costs of breast reconstruction.
Federal law also mandates that surgery be performed on the non-cancerous breast to assure that each patient's breasts will, as closely as possible, "match" after reconstruction surgery.
There are multiple options available for reconstruction.
Depending on a patient's chemotherapy or radiation therapy schedule, breast reconstruction can be done immediately or after these treatments are completed.
Breast reconstruction has a positive effect on the quality of life of breast cancer patients.
ABOUT BREAST RECONSTRUCTION
The goal of breast reconstruction is to replace breast tissue removed during a patient's cancer surgery. Either an implant or tissue taken from the patient's body, such as from the abdomen or upper back, can be used. Tattooing after recovery is often performed to create a nipple and areola.
At South Bay Plastic Surgeons, our breast reconstruction options are uniquely tailored to the needs and goals of each patient. We can achieve results similar to those of breast augmentation surgery at our Torrance practice. Call us today at (310) 784-0644 or request a consultation online to explore your options.
