Micro-Needling for Skin Rejuvenation
Medical Micro-Needling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a breakthrough technology for the treatment of wrinkles, pigmentation, scars, and stretch marks. Clinical studies have shown that Micro-Needling produces micro-channels in the dermis which stimulate the body's natural defenses to repair and produce concentrated amounts of collagen and proteins to the treated areas of the skin. This results in the skin's thickness being increased by up to 80%, which helps smooth scars, visibly reduce stretch marks, and erase wrinkles.

New FDA-Approved Gel Implants
We are excited to announce that two kinds of advanced breast implants have officially been FDA-approved! The Allergan NATRELLE® 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Filled Breast Implants are made of highly cohesive gel filler, so that in the event of a rupture, there is low risk of gel migration. This implant has a sloped shape or teardrop shape to give the breast a more natural appearance after breast augmentation or breast reconstruction. The textured surface may help reduce the chance of scar tissue forming around the implant (known as "capsular contracture"), which is the No. 1 reason for reoperation. A textured shell also helps to keep the implant in place. The second implant that was approved has a similar gel structure, shape, and textured shell. The Mentor MemoryShape Breast Implants® have more cross-linking compared to the silicone of previous Mentor implants, resulting in a firmer gel and low complication rate.
Call the office today at (310) 784-0644 to request a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons serving Long Beach. They can provide you with more information about NATRELLE 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Filled Breast Implants and the MemoryShape Breast Implants and determine whether they would be the right choice for you!
Buyer Beware of Counterfeit BOTOX
It has become more common during these hard economic times to shop online for better prices or surf daily deal websites (or other types of social media). In some instances, this can be advantageous. However, when it comes to Obagi® or BOTOX in the Manhattan Beach area, cheaper prices may not lead to a better bargain and may even be harmful.
The FDA has written to more than 350 medical practices for using unapproved versions of BOTOX Cosmetic as well as other medications that may have been purchased from a foreign supplier.
The FDA says these "bargain" products may be contaminated, counterfeit, ineffective, unsafe, and/or wrongly stored and transported. Additionally, patients could be placed at risk if medical providers purchase and use illegal and unapproved medications from foreign suppliers, a practice which essentially deprives patients of safe and proper treatment.
The FDA has requested that medical practices that bought the unapproved versions of BOTOX, and any other products from suppliers owned by Canada Drugs®, stop administering the products to their patients. The following distributors belong to Canada Drugs: Bridgewater Medical, Clinical Care, A+ Health Supplies, and QSP (Quality Specialty Products).
Many of the products these suppliers sell and distribute have not been approved by the FDA. This makes it impossible for the agency to confirm that the manufacturing and handling of these medications follow U.S. regulations, or that they are effective and safe for clinical uses.
Drugmakers and law-enforcement officials have been working for several years to crack down on counterfeit and foreign misbranded medicines. In recent years, Congress has sharpened penalties for selling fake drugs, and pharmaceutical-industry executives have pushed hard to accelerate the efforts.
In a statement about the counterfeit BOTOX, Allergan said, "We cannot confirm the safety or authenticity of products that are imported from unauthorized distributors."
Regarding skincare products, a recent article in the March edition of Health Magazine cautioned against buying products online: "Before you try a drugstore site with a name you've never heard before, consider this: last fall, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration shut down more than 4,000 Internet pharmacies selling counterfeit and unapproved medication."
"There are still plenty of rogue websites out there selling counterfeit over-the-counter and prescription drugs that look like regular store websites," cautioned Brian Liang, M.D., Vice President of the Partnership for Safe Medicines. Additionally, pharmaceutical companies such as Obagi and Allergan state that products purchased online are not supported by their companies.
You can rest assured that South Bay Plastic Surgeons only purchases authentic BOTOX from Allergan, as well as other injectables and skincare products from their respective manufacturers. There definitely is truth in the saying "you get what you pay for"!
