Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Collagen injection is a way to temporarily eliminate wrinkles and small contour defects in the skin. Collagen can also be used to augment areas of the face, especially the lips. However, collagen achieves these results in a far different way. Collagen itself is a matrix of proteins which fills the space between the body's cells. Thus, it is an inert "filler" which can be injected to elimintate wrinkles, and restore collagen to areas where it has been depleted by gravity or age. Since the injected collagen is foreign to the body, it is broken down over a period of several months. As with Botox, a continual course of Collagen injections can eliminate small wrinkles and contour defects, leaving a younger looking face.
